What makes it great are the people who live and work here.

These 'My Place in Stockport Citizen Awards' recognise all the extraordinary people there are in the borough. The people who make Stockport a special place.

Celebrating the achievements of local people is one part of Stockport Council's 'Stockport Community Pride' initiative. This is about working together to further improve the look and feel of the borough and promote civic pride.

Extra funding is in place to carry out work such as clean-ups, smarten-ups and measures to combat 'grime and crime'. Other initiatives will help employment, public safety and young people.

This type of improvement work is aimed at making a real difference to local quality of life. It is about encouraging even more community pride and community spirit.

People are key to this and these awards give them the recognition they deserve.
