There are a number of categories that nominations can be entered for. If you feel that your citizen in the spotlight doesn’t fit into any of the categories below, get in touch and we may be able to suggest an appropriate one for you.

Ambassador for Stockport - Sponsored by Sale Sharks

This award goes to someone who is a real figurehead for Stockport. They could be a celebrity that has helped put the borough on the map, or a prominent community figure that helps to champion everything that is great about Stockport.

Best Street - Sponsored by Solutions SK

This award will reward the resident or residents who help to make their street a better place to live. Have any individuals or groups of people improved your surroundings, for example by setting up a successful neighbourhood watch scheme, or adding attractive floral displays?

Beyond the Doorstep - Supported by GM Fire and Rescue Service (Stockport)

This is where people who work every day just ‘Beyond the Doorstep’ will be recognized. Do you have a particularly cheerful postman or postwoman that brightens up your day every morning? Does your window cleaner, bus driver or gardener do such a great job that they really should be rewarded?

Citizen of the Year - Sponsored by John Lewis

This award is open to anyone over the age of 18 who has made an outstanding contribution to Stockport in lots of different ways, from the street they live in, to the place they work, and beyond.

Community Spirited Business - Supported by Stockport Economic Alliance Community

This award is for the Stockport businesses that put lots back into the community, be it through time, effort or money. This could include the business that encourages its staff to get out into the community by volunteering, the company that is extremely active in terms of fundraising, or a business that has established a number of community-based initiatives.

Good Neighbour - Supported by Greater Manchester Police(Stockport)

This category rewards those people who go out of their way to be the best neighbour possible. For example, do you know someone who looks after an elderly person next door or who always keeps a close eye on your home when you’re away? Perhaps someone who lives nearby always looks after their neighbours pets out of the kindness of their hearts?

Green and Glorious - Sponsored by Lend Lease

The ‘Green and Glorious’ award will put those in the limelight that have been responsible for a great community clean up. Has an individual started up an action group to clean up the nearby street or surroundings, or who help care for a local car par?

Life Changing - Supported by Stockport Community & Voluntary Services

This category celebrates a Stockport citizen who has turned their life around against the odds. Maybe someone has shown extreme spirit during an illness, have recovered from a life threatening accident, or perhaps has changed their life to now help others who have suffered  in the same way?

Sports Personality of the Year - Sponsored by Pure

This award will reward those who are involved in sport in some way, in Stockport. It will celebrate sports people or coaches who go above and beyond their usual lives to make a difference to their sport and to raise its profile.

Volunteer/Voluntary Group - Sponsored by Community Foundation for Greater Manchester

Here individuals or groups of people who are volunteers who make a real difference to Stockport’s communities will be rewarded. Nominees could include resident associations, community groups or voluntary support groups for example. What about individuals who spend their free time helping the young, the elderly, or people with disabilities?

Young Citizen of the Year - Sponsored by Stockport Express

This award is open to anyone under the age of 18 who has made an outstanding contribution to Stockport in lots of different ways, from where they live, to the school or college they attend, and beyond.
